I always get inspired by my one of my favorite friend, sister, colleague and well-wisher who is none-other than Sumita Sen. She always tells that her ambition is to “Travel around the world”. From her, I learned that life is not simply earning and saving money but also saving the memories and enjoying life. Choosing a life partner is always an important one, I’m very glad that she had it too such a great and lovable husband Koustav Sen. for her.
I’m very happy that I had an opportunity to visit her native (Kolkata) for this year (2019) Durga Puja festival. Yep, she invited me and allowed to stay with her lovable family for almost 10 days.
We started our journey from Chennai to Kolkata via Train. It’s my first long journey train travel (~27 hrs) 🚂. After the long journey, we reached Kolkata. Personally, I’ve got a huge problem with the language 😔 I knew only English and Tamil. But in Kolkata, you should have known at least Hindi or Bengali to survive. However, Sumi and Koustav helped me in the whole journey to survive.
We reached Kolkata on Oct 3rd. We directly went to Sumita’s flat. I received the best welcome from her In-laws with the favorite rasgulla. Koustav mom and dad were so lovable people ♥. Luckily they can able to understand English 😊 . Day 1 is mostly taking rest and we have celebrated Koustav birthday too 🎉. We have very big days lined up…
Oct 4th, It’s the day we started exploring the Durga pandals. From the below first pic the Durga idol is made up of 50 Kg of Pure Gold!
Oct 5th, We started our trip with the whole family early in the morning to see the new pandals
There the climate was more similar to Chennai. I experienced all types of weather on my whole journey 😁. After taking some rest in the afternoon, we started again our journey.
Oct 6th, the day we call PushPanjali, morning itself we wore the traditional wear to workship the Lord Durga ma.
Again after some rest, the journey to the new pandals continued with the awesome places. This day the crowd was so much, as we have waited for almost 2 hours to see some pandals. My legs were started paining after some moment 🤪 but after crossing all those long queues when we see those huge pandals and the beautiful Durga statue, all my pain was gone 😍. After visiting all the pandals we reached the home at 2 AM (officially it’s next day 😂)
Oct 6th, time for the family reunion ♥ with the lunch
After our lunch, we started to visit Sumi’s mom and dad, another lovable family.
Oct 8th we stayed the whole day at Sumi’s house along with her whole family. After a very long time, I got the opportunity to stay in a village kind of environment with a big family. All the relations with Smitha’s were staying next to each other. They have their own garden where they make their own vegetables and fruits. The climate was so cool, that we watched a horror movie called “Rings” with the whole family. I had so much fun with the kids, babies in their families.
I always do love to visit many villages and spending time with a family and nature. During my childhood days, I spend most of my summer holidays at my grandma’s house. I love my grandma so much. Her house will be in the middle of the village. After my grandma passes away. I really miss my grandma and that village environment. After so many years, now I felt so glad to spend my time with such a wonderful family.
All their love for me, which is incredible. Their care towards me is like “More than beginning a guest I was their own son”
Oct 9th, it’s almost the end of Durga puja 😔. One of the difficult parts during the end of the puja is where all the beautiful Durga idols were immersed in the rivers.
I purchased some sarees for my mom and sister, then I ate the famous chicken roll at the park street
Oct 10, after all those puja celebrations, it’s time to explore Kolkata. This time I got another new friend (Misti Mukherjee) who is the friend of Sumita.
At last the final day came (Oct 11th), time to say goodbye to all. Throughout all days it was like a dream for me. I never thought of carrying this much of memories initially. But at last, it was a hard feeling to say goodbye. I’d like to say a big thanks 😍 to Sumita and koustav for giving me this wonderful memory and opportunity, By the way, I’m waiting for the next trip 😉😉
